Think it’s the Hard Hits on the Track that Build your Pain Tolerance? Think Again.

Recent research by German scientists suggests that athletes develop a higher pain tolerance than those who don’t exercise regularly. It isn’t about their ability to recognize the pain, because the research shows that both athletes and non-athletes recognize pain at the same level. It has to do more with their “pain endurance level.” Athletes develop coping mechanisms that help them deal with the pain for longer. This is more incentive to do cardio on a regular basis! The more you exercise, the better you’ll take the hits and the falls. To read the full article on NPR click here.  The complete findings of the research can be found in the journal Pain.
