Microbiologists Show Interest In Roller Derby’s Broad Shoulders
Microbiologists have found an unlikely laboratory on the arms of of roller derby skaters packed in a jam. It turns out that this close contact of bare skin allows scientists to study the transfer of microbes on the skin from one person to another.
Checked both before and after a match, the shoulders of skaters show an increase of almost 50% in the amount of microbial material on their skin.
These scientists are just beginning to understand how this transfer of microbes from one community to another may impact our health.
