Journalists Don’t Understand Roller Derby

A recent blog post by Hard Dash on DerbyLife explored the idea that journalists who write about roller derby often don’t get the real story. Over and over again the same story is printed in different locations around the world, describing one derby person’s day job and then explaining the rules of roller derby. Does that mean that most journalists simply don’t care to dig a little deeper into the stories behind derby, or that most readers don’t care to read the real stories? Or is roller derby simply a “filler piece” for newspapers? We all know there is much more to tell about roller derby, maybe one day the rest of the world will want to listen.
